In a heated political exchange, Gaurav Gogoi and Akhil Gogoi, prominent leaders from the Indian National Congress and the Raijor Dal respectively, have targeted Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi over what they describe as divisive religious politics in the region. Both opposition leaders expressed their concerns during a recent press conference where they accused Sarma and Owaisi of exploiting communal sentiments for political gains.
Gaurav Gogoi emphasized that the tactics employed party and the AIMIM would further escalate tension among different communities. He criticized Sarma’s administration for allegedly prioritizing religious identity over genuine developmental issues facing the state, asserting that such an approach undermines the secular fabric of Assam.
Meanwhile, Akhil Gogoi stressed the importance of unity among various communities in Assam. He remarked that political leaders should focus on addressing critical issues like unemployment, healthcare, and education rather than engaging in religious polarization. Akhil’s comments reflect a growing concern among opposition parties about the impact of divisive politics on social harmony in the state.
The leaders urged voters to remain vigilant against leaders who seek to manipulate communal divisions for electoral advantage. Gogoi and Akhil called for a collective response to ensure that constructive dialogue and mutual respect prevail over divisive rhetoric. Their statements come ahead of crucial elections, where both parties are keen to challenge the incumbent leadership.
As political rivalries intensify, the discourse around religious politics in Assam remains a critical point of contention, with opposition leaders advocating for an inclusive and progressive vision for the state’s future.
