Google has long provided the Gemini CLI, a popular tool for developers focused on AI terminal operations. This community-driven application streamlined tasks and offered essential features for users. However, the landscape of software development is rapidly evolving.
In a significant shift, Google announced the transition of Gemini CLI to the new Antigravity CLI. This change introduces an agent-first platform designed for intricate, multi-agent workflows. The new tool is built on Go, promising faster execution and enhanced asynchronous processing capabilities.
The switch to Antigravity CLI will sync seamlessly with the upgraded Antigravity 2.0 desktop application. Current enterprise customers will retain their access without interruption. However, individual and free users face a deadline; they must migrate before Gemini CLI ceases operations on June 18, 2026.
This transition aims to improve user experience under one cohesive system. As developers adapt to the changes, the unified architecture should facilitate better performance and collaboration in complex projects. For many, this will mean a necessary adjustment to their workflows.
