The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has clarified that the daily electricity output on the national grid is closely linked to the demand from electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos), the generation declarations from Generation Companies (GenCos), and the wheeling capacity of TCN itself. This clarification was made ’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, in a recent statement.
Mbah emphasized that the interaction between these three components is crucial for maintaining a stable power supply across the nation. The DisCos determine the amount of electricity they require each day, which in turn influences the generation output mandated . It is essential that GenCos meet their commitments declared amount of electricity. Likewise, TCN must have the capacity to transmit this electricity effectively through the national grid.
Moreover, Mbah pointed out that there are penalties in place for any party that fails to fulfill its obligations in this interconnected system. This measure aims to ensure accountability and encourage all stakeholders to adhere to their commitments, thus enhancing the overall performance of the electricity supply chain.
The statement from TCN comes amidst ongoing discussions about the challenges facing Nigeria’s power sector, including the frequent power outages that have plagued the country. operational dynamics between DisCos, GenCos, and TCN, Mbah hopes to elucidate the complexities involved in power transmission and generation.
