Kolhapur police have successfully dismantled an illegal sex determination racket a doctor and an agent involved in the unlawful activity. The operation took place during a surprise raid at a private clinic, where authorities confiscated a significant amount of cash along with various medical equipment used for the illegal practice.
The raid was conducted following a tip-off received , which indicated that the clinic was offering unauthorized sex determination services to expecting parents. This practice, banned under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) Act, aims to curb sex-selective abortions and address societal issues related to gender imbalance.
During the operation, the police encountered the doctor, who was allegedly performing ultrasounds and providing results that indicated the sex of the unborn child. The agent, believed to be facilitating the transactions and luring in clients, was also apprehended on the spot.
Authorities revealed that the clinic had been under surveillance for several weeks. Investigators uncovered that numerous expecting couples were being charged substantial fees for the services, which not only contravenes the law but also poses significant ethical concerns regarding the sanctity of life and equality.
