IN CONVERSATION WITH GANNI ABOUT THEIR SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY

Published on April 3, 2026

At the beginning of 2024, I had the opportunity to sit down with Lauren Bartley, the Chief Sustainability Officer at GANNI, to dive into the brand’s sustainable initiatives and vision for the future of fashion. Here are some of the key takeaways from the conversation.

Muchaneta ten Napel (MTN): “Lauren, can you share with us GANNI’s journey toward sustainability?”

Lauren Bartley (LB): “Absolutely. Our sustainability journey began several years ago when we realized the impact that the fashion industry has on the environment. We knew we had a responsibility to reduce our footprint and create positive change. Since then, we have implemented various initiatives focused on sustainable materials, ethical production practices, and transparency throughout our supply chain.”

MTN: “What specific initiatives have you implemented to achieve these goals?”

LB: “We have committed to using more sustainable materials, such as organic cotton and recycled polyester, in our collections. By 2025, we aim for 90% of our materials to be sourced sustainably. Additionally, we have partnered with industry organizations to support responsible sourcing and we conduct regular audits of our factories to ensure fair labor practices.”

MTN: “How does GANNI educate its consumers about sustainability?”

LB: “Consumer education is crucial for driving change in the industry. We focus on transparency, providing information on our materials and production processes through our website and social media platforms. We also host workshops and events that encourage consumers to think critically about their purchasing choices and to embrace a more sustainable lifestyle.”

MTN: “What challenges has GANNI faced on its sustainability journey?”

LB: “One of the biggest challenges has been changing the mindset within the industry, where fast fashion remains prevalent. Additionally, sourcing sustainable materials can sometimes be more complex and costly. However, we believe that the long-term benefits—both for the planet and our brand—far outweigh these challenges.”

MTN: “Looking ahead, what is GANNI’s vision for the future of fashion?”

LB: “Our vision is to pave the way for a more responsible fashion industry. We envision a world where sustainability is the norm, not the exception. We are dedicated to continuing our efforts in reducing waste, promoting circularity, and creating collections that inspire consumers to make conscious choices. other brands and stakeholders, we hope to catalyze a broader movement towards sustainability in fashion.”

MTN: “What message do you have for consumers who want to support sustainable fashion?”

LB: “I encourage consumers to do their research and choose brands that are committed to sustainability. Awareness is key—understand where your clothes come from and the impact of your choices. Every little bit helps, and collectively, we can drive the change needed for a more sustainable future in fashion.”

As GANNI continues on its sustainability journey, it is clear that the brand is not just focused on its own practices but also on inspiring consumers and the wider industry to embrace a more sustainable approach to fashion. With leaders like Lauren Bartley at the helm, GANNI is poised to play a significant role in shaping the future of the industry.
