India has condemned recent attacks on United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) soldiers, emphasizing the need for accountability regarding threats posed to peacekeepers around the world. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) made the statements in line with United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution 2589, which calls for the protection of peacekeeping missions and their personnel.
In a recent statement, a spokesperson for the MEA underscored India’s long-standing commitment to peacekeeping efforts, highlighting that India is one of the largest and longest-serving contributors to UN peacekeeping missions. The spokesperson remarked, “As one of the largest and longest serving contributors to Peacekeeping, and in consonance with UNSC resolution 2589, we seek accountability for crimes against peacekeepers.”
