Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration has pledged to maintain stringent surveillance of foreign nationals in Bali, despite the implementation of a Work From Abroad (WFA) policy that has attracted a growing number of expatriates to the island. The WFA initiative allows foreign workers to live and operate remotely from Bali, positioning the island as a desirable location for digital nomads.
Officials have emphasized that the monitoring is essential to ensure compliance with residency regulations and to safeguard local interests. The influx of international visitors has raised concerns over potential violations of immigration laws, including overstays and illegal employment. In response, the Directorate has ramped up inspections and checks on foreigners living and working in the region.
Authorities have made it clear that while the welcoming environment for foreign nationals continues, vigilance will be a critical component in managing the balance between tourism and local wellbeing. The Directorate aims to prevent any negative impact that could arise from an increased foreign presence, which has been a concern for many local communities.
Foreigners residing in Bali are advised to adhere strictly to visa regulations and to ensure their legal paperwork is up to date. The Directorate General of Immigration has established clear channels for reporting and resolving any issues related to immigration status, urging foreigners to proactively engage with the system.
As Bali continues to attract international attention as a prime destination for remote work, the government’s commitment to monitoring foreign nationals is likely to remain a central focus.
