For years, iPhone users have faced the frustration of seeing green message bubbles when texting Android devices. The shift from iMessage to Standard SMS often meant compromised security and privacy. This long-standing issue may finally see resolution with the latest update from Apple.
With the rollout of iOS 26.5, Apple introduces end-to-end encryption for Rich Communication Services (RCS) chats. This new feature brings encrypted messaging to iMessage conversations with Android users via Google Messages. Beta testing has commenced, providing early adopters with a glimpse of the enhanced security.
The update allows messages to be encrypted, even when sent between iPhones and Android devices. The “look for the lock” badge will indicate when a conversation is secure. Users can now enjoy peace of mind, knowing their conversations are shielded from prying eyes.
This development marks a significant leap forward in user privacy and security. Both Apple and Google seem committed to improving cross-platform messaging experiences. As more users adopt the encryption features, the green bubble stigma may fade into the background.
