Jiayu Pass, a historic fortification in China, has formally established a sister site relationship with Petra, the archaeological wonder in Jordan, marking a significant milestone in fostering cultural ties between the two iconic locations along the ancient Silk Road.
The partnership was officiated in a ceremony attended cultural representatives from both sides. Shen Lin, the vice mayor of Jiayuguan City, emphasized the importance of this connection, stating that it will enhance interactions between the two splendid civilizations. He highlighted the shared historical significance of Jiayu Pass and Petra as essential posts along the Silk Road, which was a vital route for trade, cultural exchange, and communication in ancient times.
The agreement aims to promote collaborative initiatives in areas such as tourism, research, and education. Both Jiayu Pass and Petra attract millions of visitors each year, drawn histories and breathtaking landscapes. With the formalization of their relationship, the two sites plan to implement joint marketing strategies to boost international tourism while preserving their unique cultural heritages.
As part of the sister site arrangement, officials are also looking into organizing cultural exchanges, including art exhibitions, thematic festivals, and educational programs.
