For many job seekers in the UK, traditional interviews have long been a standard practice. However, a recent surge in AI-driven interviews has sparked frustration among candidates. Nearly half of those searching for jobs report experiencing interactions with artificial intelligence.
As revealed by a survey from the hiring platform Greenhouse, 47% of UK job seekers have faced AI interviews. The study, which surveyed 2,950 job seekers globally, found that 30% of UK respondents abandoned their job applications due to the presence of AI in the interview process.
The discontent stems from perceptions of the interviews as awkward and unnatural. Candidates describe feeling disconnected from the technology, which often lacks the human touch they desire in personal interactions. This has raised concerns about the effectiveness of AI in evaluating candidates fairly.
The impact of this shift is evident. Job seekers are increasingly reluctant to engage with companies utilizing AI for interviews, potentially hindering access to talent for employers. As the job market evolves, businesses may need to reconsider their hiring practices to better align with candidate expectations.
