The architecture of artificial intelligence is evolving rapidly. Moving beyond transient AI interactions, the industry is shifting towards deploying persistent, coordinated AI agents that require continual operation and interaction with external tools and code execution.
Kubernetes has emerged as the leading platform for hosting these complex AI workloads. However, traditional Kubernetes configurations fall short due to the unique requirements of stateful AI agents, which necessitate a new abstraction to support their operation effectively.
In response, the Agent Sandbox project is being developed under SIG Apps to simplify the management of AI agent workloads. This initiative introduces a declarative API and a Sandbox custom resource definition (CRD) designed specifically for singleton, stateful tasks, featuring strong isolation, lifecycle management, and stable identities.
The project is open-source, and contributors are encouraged to participate. Users can easily install core components and extensions to enhance their Kubernetes environments, streamlining the deployment of isolated AI worker agents to optimize performance in cloud-native settings.
