Their story depicts the harsh realities of refugees striving to reach England. However, the journey is fraught with obstacles, as they must traverse countries like Iran, Turkey, Italy, and France.
3. Turtles Can Fly
Set in a small Kurdish village, *Turtles Can Fly* showcases the desperate attempts of villagers to find an antenna that will allow them to hear news about the imminent U.S. attack on Iraq. At the same time, children are led by a young boy who survives selling landmines.
4. The Good Lie
One of the most contemporary films addressing immigration and refugee issues is *The Good Lie*, released in 2014. This impactful film is based on a true story, depicting the life of a young refugee from the Sudanese civil war. He, along with other “lost boys” of Sudan, wins a lottery to live in the United States. In *Welcome*, the protagonist Bilal is a 17-year-old from Iranian Kurdistan. Faced with obstacles, Bilal is stopped from crossing the English Channel upon arriving in France. Undeterred, he chooses to swim the 32 kilometers across the channel in pursuit of love.
