Meta has decided to lay off approximately 8,000 employees, which accounts for 10% of its workforce. This move comes as part of a broader restructuring effort aimed at integrating artificial intelligence more deeply into the company’s operations.
The decision was communicated in an internal memo from HR head Janelle Gale. Alongside the layoffs, Meta is cancelling 6,000 open positions and has indicated that more cuts may follow later in 2026, focusing efforts on forming AI-centric teams.
This shift aligns with Meta’s plan to invest $115-135 billion in AI infrastructure over the coming years. The company aims to develop specialized “pods” that concentrate on AI projects, reflecting a strategic pivot in response to market demands.
