The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has issued guidelines to local authorities in response to the observance of World Meteorological Day and World Water Day on March 23, 2026. This year’s theme, “Observing Today, Protecting Tomorrow,” emphasizes the crucial importance of meteorological, hydrological, and environmental observation data in protecting lives, property, and ecosystems in the face of increasing climate risks.
In light of these observances, the Ministry urges regional governments, including those in major urban centers such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, to enhance their efforts in monitoring and mitigating climate-related challenges. The focus is on implementing urgent measures to control air pollution and improve water resource management.
The Ministry’s guidance highlights the significant impact that accurate and timely weather and water data can have on disaster preparedness and response strategies. As climate variability and extreme weather events become more frequent, the need for comprehensive observational networks is more critical than ever.
Authorities are encouraged to invest in technological advancements that support data collection and analysis. This includes upgrading equipment, expanding meteorological stations, and developing user-friendly platforms for shared access to important environmental information.
Moreover, the Ministry emphasizes the importance of community engagement and education regarding climate resilience. Public awareness campaigns are recommended to inform citizens about the implications of climate change and the steps they can take to contribute to mitigation efforts.
As World Meteorological Day and World Water Day approach, the Ministry aims to foster a cooperative approach among various governmental and non-governmental organizations to enhance overall climate adaptation measures. This collaboration will be essential for building a sustainable future that safeguards the environment and promotes public health in Vietnam.
