Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has voiced her concerns over the ongoing crisis within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), attributing it as a significant factor behind the defection of 31 senators from the party. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Akpoti-Uduaghan stressed the urgent need for party unity and called on former members who had left the PDP to return as part of the rebuilding efforts.
The senator highlighted the negative impact of the current turmoil within the party, stating that disunity and infighting have led to the loss of key political figures. “The ongoing crisis has created an environment where members feel undervalued and unsupported, prompting them to seek greener pastures elsewhere,” she asserted.
Akpoti-Uduaghan underscored the importance of collective effort in restoring the party’s integrity and strength. She expressed optimism that with a concerted approach, the PDP could regain its former glory and reclaim its position as a major force in Nigerian politics.
In her appeal for returnees, she emphasized that the party’s doors are open for those who wish to contribute to its revitalization. “We need strong leadership and collaboration to navigate through this difficult period. I urge those who have left to come back home and be part of this change,” she said.
The senator’s statements come in the wake of a challenging political landscape for the PDP, which has seen significant shifts in its membership and public support. As the party navigates these turbulent waters, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s call for unity and reconciliation could prove to be a crucial step towards stabilization and growth.
