Live Nation-Ticketmaster has long dominated the ticketing industry, offering fans access to concerts and events through a single platform. This monopoly has sparked criticism among consumers and industry players alike, who allege unfair practices and inflated prices.
In a significant move, more than 30 states have filed a request with federal judge Arun Subramanian, seeking the divestiture of the ticketing giant. They argue that the company’s control over prominent amphitheaters and its bundling of services restrict competition and harm fans.
The court proceedings have now set the stage for a deeper examination of Live Nation-Ticketmaster’s business practices. States aim to demonstrate that breaking up the company could foster a more competitive environment in ticket sales and promote fairer pricing.
