Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has set an ambitious goal to launch operations at Long Thành International Airport 2026, a project that is expected to transform Vietnam’s aviation landscape. The airport, located in Đồng Nai Province, aims to become a major regional hub and significantly increase the country’s air transportation capacity.
As of now, construction work valued at approximately VNĐ64.1 trillion (US$2.4 billion) has been completed, which represents 74 percent of the total contracted value of the project. Disbursement for the project has reached around VNĐ40.7 trillion, indicating significant financial progress and commitment to the timeline.
The new airport is designed to handle up to 100 million passengers and five million tons of cargo annually once fully operational. This capacity is expected to alleviate congestion at Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, which has been operating beyond its limits for years.
Prime Minister Chính emphasized the importance of timely execution and effective management of resources to ensure the airport’s completion. He urged relevant authorities to closely monitor the project’s progress, address any challenges swiftly, and maintain high construction standards to ensure both safety and efficiency.
In addition to its operational capabilities, Long Thành Airport is projected to play a crucial role in boosting the local economy and creating numerous job opportunities. The government aims to foster sustainable development in the surrounding areas, promoting both tourism and commerce.
The Long Thành International Airport project, with its anticipated completion date, reflects Vietnam’s broader aspirations to enhance its infrastructure and connect more effectively with the global market. As the construction progresses, the eyes of the nation will be on this pivotal development in the aviation sector.
