The Yucatán International Book Fair (FILEY) welcomed the Environmental Outreach and Conservation Center, Proyecto Santa María, to present its first publishing project: a comic book centered on Patachín, a parrot who has suffered abuse.
This innovative project aims to raise awareness about animal welfare and the importance of protecting wildlife through engaging storytelling. Patachín’s journey, depicted in vibrant illustrations, highlights the struggles and resilience of animals that face trauma from human actions.
During the launch event, representatives from Proyecto Santa María shared the motivations behind creating the comic book. They emphasized the importance of educating young readers about empathy, responsibility, and the need for advocacy on behalf of vulnerable animal species. medium of comic books, the team hopes to reach a broader audience and inspire positive change in attitudes towards wildlife conservation.
The book’s release coincides with a growing movement in Mexico to address animal rights and to promote ethical treatment of pets and other animals. Proyecto Santa María’s initiative also comes amid increasing concerns about the treatment of wildlife, particularly in light of habitat loss and illegal trafficking.
FILEY attendees showed great interest in the comic book, engaging in discussions and expressing support for the project’s mission. The response suggests a promising future for Patachín’s story, not just as a work of art but as a catalyst for conversation and advocacy in the realm of environmental conservation.
In addition to the comic book, Proyecto Santa María plans to develop further educational materials and outreach programs aimed at schools and communities, emphasizing the importance of coexistence with nature and the need to protect our planet’s wildlife.
