The 214th Annual Exhibition Institute of Painters in Water Colours at the Mall Galleries is being hailed as one of the best ever hosted . This year’s exhibition stands out due to the exceptional quality of artwork presented as well as its meticulous installation, ensuring a pleasing visual flow throughout the spaces.
One distinguishing feature of the exhibition is the striking contrast between the title walls in the galleries: the West Gallery boasts a vibrant, colorful display, while the East Gallery presents a more subdued, monochrome wall. This thoughtful design choice enhances the overall experience for visitors, guiding them from one section to another seamlessly.
With a total of 462 artworks showcased, this exhibition is noted for its superb hanging—certainly one of the best among various Federated British Artists societies that display at the Mall Galleries. Often, exhibitions with a large number of pieces can become overwhelming or difficult to navigate, particularly when little consideration is given to the arrangement of the artworks. This year’s layout, carefully planned President, Juliette Losq, reflects a dedication to detail that is clearly commendable.
The gallery is bustling with visitors, a clear indication that the effort put into curating this exhibition has resonated with the public.
Visitors can enjoy the RI 214th Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries until April 11, with the exception of Easter Sunday and Easter Monday when the gallery will be closed. The exhibition is located at the Mall Galleries, situated in London, featuring the North, East, and West Galleries. It is open daily from 10 AM to 5 PM, and admission is priced at £7, although entry is free for Friends of the Mall Galleries and those under 25. Concessions are also available, and no prior booking is required.
For those unable to visit in person, all the artworks are available for online viewing through the Mall Galleries’ website, which also facilitates art purchases. Furthermore, dedicated photo albums showcasing various sections of the exhibition have been created on social media platforms, allowing a broader audience to appreciate the inspiring pieces on display.
As the exhibition continues to attract attention, it serves not only as a platform for established artists but also as a showcase for new talent, with the standard of work from artists applying for membership being particularly noteworthy. Observations about the exhibited artwork provide further insights into the themes and techniques present, contributing to a richer understanding of the medium of watercolors.
Overall, the RI 214th Annual Exhibition offers an engaging celebration of watercolor art, combining excellence in both the works displayed and the thoughtful curation that invites all art lovers to explore.
