Soekarno-Hatta handles nearly two million passengers over Eid period

State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia reported that Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang handled nearly two million passengers during the recent Eid holiday period. This surge in passenger traffic highlights the airport’s crucial role as a key transportation hub in the region.

According to the report, approximately 1.9 million passengers traveled through the airport from April 18 to April 26, marking a significant increase compared to the same period last year. The spike in numbers was attributed to the traditional practice of homecoming for Eid, known as “mudik,” where many Indonesians return to their hometowns to celebrate the holiday with their families.

PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia worked diligently to prepare for the influx of travelers, implementing enhanced operational measures to ensure a smooth experience at the airport. This included increasing the number of check-in counters, deploying additional staff, and improving coordination with airlines to minimize congestion and delays.

The airport recorded the highest daily passenger numbers on April 20, with over 300,000 travelers processed in a single day. This intense volume prompted the airport management to extend operating hours and keep facilities open to accommodate the needs of passengers.

In light of the significant passenger traffic, the airport authorities urged travelers to arrive early and remain patient during their journeys, as security checks and boarding could take longer than usual.

Additionally, services such as baggage handling, food stalls, and retail outlets were expanded to cater to the increased demand, ensuring that passengers had access to amenities while they waited for their flights.

As the Eid celebrations concluded, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport continued to manage the returning surge of passengers who sought to resume their daily lives, emphasizing the importance of efficient airport operations during peak travel seasons.

Overall, the successful handling of nearly two million passengers over the Eid period demonstrates the airport’s capability and commitment to facilitating seamless travel experiences for its customers.
