The Maharashtra government has officially announced a funding initiative for a biopic centered on the legendary queen Ahilyabai Holkar, allocating ₹21.6 crore for the project. This decision was formalized through an order issued ’s tourism and cultural affairs department on March 28, coinciding with Ahilyabai’s tercentenary birth anniversary.
The film will primarily be produced in Marathi, alongside other languages, with the objective of introducing Ahilyabai’s remarkable legacy to a broader national audience. The queen, who ruled the Malwa kingdom in the 18th century, is celebrated for her progressive governance, contributions to architecture, and promotion of arts and culture, making her an exemplary figure in Indian history.
Officials revealed that the decision to produce the biopic is part of a larger strategy to foster cultural outreach, specifically targeting the Dhangar community, which has historical ties to Ahilyabai. The film aims not only to celebrate her life but also to inspire contemporary audiences, encouraging them to learn from her values and practices of leadership.
