After more than two decades of anticipation, the Noida International Airport is finally set to become a reality. The monumental project, which has been marred , bureaucratic hurdles, and shifting plans, is now in the final stages of construction and is expected to commence operations in 2024. Located in Jewar, approximately 70 kilometers from Delhi, the Noida International Airport is positioned to alleviate the soaring passenger traffic at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, which has been operating at over capacity for years. The new airport is designed to handle around 12 million passengers in its first phase and can eventually expand to accommodate up to 70 million passengers annually, placing it alongside some of the largest airports in the country.
The initiative to establish an airport in the Noida region first emerged in the early 2000s as part of the government’s vision to enhance connectivity and decongest existing airports. However, the project faced numerous setbacks, including land acquisition issues, environmental clearances, and regulatory delays.
