Sunday chaos reigns in Old City; Ludhiana MC nowhere in sight

Old City in Ludhiana was thrown into disarray on Sunday as a combination of traffic congestion, street vendors, and an influx of visitors created an chaotic atmosphere. Despite the usual weekend bustle, residents and vendors expressed frustrations over the lack of support from the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC), which left the area to grapple with lawlessness and disorder.

The narrow streets were choked with vehicles, making it difficult for pedestrians to navigate. Many shop owners and local residents voiced their concerns, pointing out that the absence of adequate traffic management had resulted in gridlock. “It’s become impossible to move around here on Sundays. We often see more visitors but there’s no space for them,” lamented local shopkeeper Rajesh Kumar.

Street vendors added to the chaos, setting up stalls and encroaching into roadways, which further exacerbated the congestion. “We just want to earn a living, but it seems like there are no rules. The MC doesn’t come to help or enforce any order,” said Sunita, a street vendor selling snacks. Her sentiments were echoed , who felt neglected .

Residents have been calling for the Ludhiana MC to take action to restore order and safety to the area. Local leader Amarjit Singh stated, “It’s time the MC realizes Old City is a vital part of Ludhiana and should be treated as such. We need regular monitoring and regulations to ensure everyone can coexist peacefully.”

Despite these appeals, the municipal corporation appeared absent from the scene on Sunday, prompting further anger among residents. Many took to social media to voice their frustrations, further amplifying calls for the MC’s immediate intervention.

As Old City continues to struggle under the pressure of weekend crowds, it remains to be seen whether local authorities will take the necessary steps to alleviate the chaos that has become a frequent occurrence.
