Sustainable agricultural practices are essential for achieving food security, according to the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, during a recent event focused on agricultural development in the Lake Toba Region. This initiative, organized Economic Council (DEN) in North Sumatra, aims to enhance food production while ensuring environmental sustainability.
At the event, the Deputy Minister highlighted the importance of adopting sustainable farming techniques that not only increase crop yields but also protect natural resources. “Sustainable agriculture is not just a solution for today; it is a vital strategy for our future,” he stated. He emphasized that incorporating practices such as crop rotation, organic farming, and agroforestry can significantly contribute to food security.
The Lake Toba Region, known for its fertile soil and rich biodiversity, is seen as a potential agricultural hub. The Deputy Minister noted that sustainable methods, farmers in the area can enhance their productivity while maintaining the ecological balance.
Moreover, he announced the government’s commitment to providing training and resources to local farmers, enabling them to adopt these practices effectively. “Empowering farmers is key to fostering resilience within our agricultural system,” he added.
Participants at the event discussed various challenges facing the agricultural sector, including climate change, soil degradation, and market access. Experts urged collaboration between government, farmers, and local communities to create integrated solutions that promote sustainability and food security in the region.
