Three individuals were taken into custody in Mangaluru on Wednesday for allegedly engaging in the illegal transport of cattle. The arrests occurred during a routine inspection who were conducting checks on vehicles suspected of violating animal welfare laws.
The police intercepted a vehicle that appeared to be carrying several cattle in unsuitable conditions. Upon further investigation, they discovered that the animals were crammed into the vehicle without adequate space or ventilation, raising serious concerns regarding their welfare during transit.
Authorities have emphasized the importance of adhering to strict regulations regarding the transportation of livestock. The law mandates that cattle must be transported in a humane manner, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times. Violations of these regulations can lead to severe penalties, including hefty fines and imprisonment.
The three suspects were booked under relevant sections of the Animal Welfare Act as well as local laws pertaining to animal transportation. Police officials have stated that they are committed to cracking down on illegal activities connected to cattle transport and will continue to monitor the situation closely.
Local communities have expressed their support for the authorities’ actions, highlighting the need for greater enforcement of animal welfare laws. Activists also praised the efforts to protect livestock from inhumane treatment, calling for more awareness about the rights of animals during transportation.
The cattle involved in the incident have been rescued and will be cared for welfare organizations. Authorities are currently investigating whether the suspects have any links to larger networks engaged in illegal cattle trafficking. Further developments are expected as the investigation continues.
