President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has initiated a comprehensive nationwide security overhaul, aiming to enhance safety and stability across Nigeria. In a recent directive, he called upon the National Economic Council (NEC) to spearhead this initiative, focusing specifically on addressing issues related to grazing reserves in the country.
During a meeting, the president instructed Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead efforts in assessing which grazing reserves can be successfully transformed into modern livestock ranches. This approach is part of a broader strategy to mitigate conflicts between herders and farmers, which have been a source of tension and violence in various regions.
Tinubu emphasized the importance of creating sustainable agricultural practices and ensuring that both livestock and crop farming can coexist peacefully. He believes that establishing properly managed ranches will not only improve animal husbandry but also foster economic growth in rural communities infrastructure and resources for ranchers.
The NEC is expected to conduct thorough evaluations of the current grazing reserves, identifying potential sites that can be converted into ranches while also promoting responsible land management practices. This initiative is part of Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to reform Nigeria’s agricultural policies and address the pressing security challenges posed different agricultural stakeholders.
