The survey of over 2,000 individuals found that one in seven respondents prefer AI chatbots for health advice. The major driving force behind this trend appears to be long waiting times within the National Health Service (NHS), with a quarter of those using chatbots citing delays as their primary motivation.
This growing reliance on AI for medical inquiries raises substantial concerns among healthcare professionals. Doctors have labeled this trend “highly concerning,” warning that access to subpar medical advice through chatbots may jeopardize patient safety and lead to misdiagnosis.
The potential consequences are far-reaching. As patients increasingly turn to AI for guidance, the risk of ignoring critical health issues escalates. This shift not only strains the trust in traditional healthcare but also places further pressure on an already beleaguered NHS system.
