U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has indicated that the ongoing conflict in the region is likely to extend for “weeks” longer, emphasizing the need for international support in securing key maritime routes. Speaking during a press conference in France, Blinken urged American allies, particularly Australia and European nations, to take a more active role in protecting the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint for global oil supplies.
The Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea, sees approximately one-fifth of the world’s oil trade pass through its waters.
