The Tamil Nadu Minister for Industries, Thangam Thennarasu, emphasized the urgent need for the Central Government to expedite approvals for Metro Rail projects in the cities of Coimbatore and Madurai. Speaking at a recent press conference, Thennarasu highlighted the importance of these transportation initiatives in boosting local economies, alleviating traffic congestion, and improving overall connectivity in the regions.
Thennarasu noted that both Coimbatore and Madurai are growing urban centers, with rapidly increasing populations that require efficient public transportation solutions. The proposed Metro Rail systems are expected to enhance accessibility and promote sustainable urban development. He stated, “We have been advocating for these projects for quite some time, as they are essential for the future of our cities. The Metro Rail will not only ease transportation woes but also contribute positively to the environment.”
During the press briefing, Thennarasu also addressed the various benefits that the Metro Rail projects would bring to the local economies. He mentioned that the construction and operation of Metro systems could create thousands of jobs, both directly and indirectly, providing a significant stimulus to local businesses. Furthermore, improved public transport could attract more investments to the region, enhancing Coimbatore and Madurai’s status as commercial hubs.
In addition to economic benefits, Thennarasu pointed out the potential of Metro Rail systems to make public transportation more reliable and safer for commuters. “Investing in Metro infrastructure is investing in the safety and comfort of our citizens. With dedicated lanes for metro trains, we can significantly reduce travel times and provide a more efficient alternative to road-based transport,” he explained.
Thennarasu expressed hope that the Centre would prioritize these projects, stating that the state government has submitted detailed proposals and is eager to collaborate closely with the Central Government to ensure timely implementation. He urged citizens to voice their support for these projects to help demonstrate their significance to national policymakers.
The Minister concluded commitment to driving development in both Coimbatore and Madurai. He reiterated the collective responsibility of local leaders and residents to advocate for their needs, urging them to work together in ensuring that their cities receive the infrastructure they deserve. As the demand for improved transport solutions continues to grow, the push for Coimbatore and Madurai Metro Rail projects remains a pivotal focus for the Tamil Nadu government.
