Social media users have long navigated feeds filled with a mix of topics, often leading to content overwhelm. X, the platform previously known as Twitter, has introduced a significant new feature aimed at personalizing content delivery: custom timelines. This feature allows users to curate their feeds based on specific interests, offering more control over what they see.
Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, announced that this enhancement is one of the most substantial updates to the platform. Custom timelines let users pin topics to their home tab, including options like food, art, and business. The feature builds on Grok’s algorithm, allowing for tailored content based on users’ engagement patterns.
The custom timelines feature is currently in early access, limited to Premium subscribers on iOS, with a rollout to Android users expected soon. Alongside this, X has introduced a tool that enables users to snooze certain topics, such as politics or sports, for 24 hours. This flexibility addresses user feedback about content fatigue and enhances the overall experience.
This move positions X to compete more effectively with platforms like Bluesky and Threads, which have already implemented similar features. with greater control over their feeds, X aims to increase engagement and retain users in an increasingly crowded social media landscape.
