SEOUL, March 25 (Yonhap) — After spending most of the past five seasons in Triple-A baseball, outfielder Jared Hoying is embracing a new chapter of his career in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) with hopes of finding “something different.”
At 31 years old, Hoying’s decision to move overseas comes after years of persistence in the minors, where he showcased his powerful bat and impressive defensive skills. Known for his strong work ethic, he played for multiple organizations, including the Texas Rangers and the Philadelphia Phillies, but always found himself on the cusp of breaking into Major League Baseball.
“I felt like it was time for a change,” Hoying said during an exclusive interview. “I’ve been grinding in the minor leagues for a long time, and while I learned a lot and gained invaluable experience, I wanted to challenge myself in a new environment.”
Joining the KBO’s NC Dinos, Hoying hopes to bring the same intensity and passion that characterized his play in the U.S. He explained that the allure of the KBO lies not only in the opportunity to play at a high level but also in the chance to immerse himself in a different culture.
“The fan engagement in Korea is incredible. I’ve heard so many great stories about the atmosphere at the stadiums,” he said. “I want to experience that and contribute to the team in any way I can.”
Hoying’s transition has not been without its challenges. Adapting to the language barrier and different playing styles can be daunting, but he is determined to embrace the change. He noted that despite the differences, his fundamental skills remain applicable, and he is excited to demonstrate them in this new league.
“My goal is to be a reliable player for the Dinos, to help us win games, and to develop my game further,” Hoying mentioned. “Ultimately, I want to show that I can compete at this level and make a positive impact on the team.”
As the season approaches, Hoying is aware of the expectations but remains focused on the journey rather than the destination. He emphasizes the importance of personal growth and the joy of playing the game he loves, no matter where it takes him.
“I just want to enjoy the game, make new memories, and see where this adventure leads,” he said. “It’s all about the love of the sport and the experiences that come with it.”
Already, Hoying’s enthusiasm and readiness to embrace something different reflect not just a shift in his career but also a desire to explore the unique baseball culture that Korea has to offer. As he embarks on this new chapter, fans and teammates alike will be keenly watching how he makes his mark in the KBO.
