OpenAI has introduced a new security measure for ChatGPT accounts, shifting the landscape for user authentication. Previously, users relied on traditional passwords and recovery methods, which often left accounts vulnerable to breaches.
The new feature, named Advanced Account Security, eliminates the need for passwords and email recovery. Instead, it requires users to authenticate their accounts using two hardware passkeys, creating a robust defense against unauthorized access.
This change aims to enhance security in an era marked threats. Users must manually opt-in to this setting, and should they lose their hardware keys, access to their accounts will be irretrievable—no customer support assistance will be available.
The move reflects OpenAI’s commitment to user safety, positioning ChatGPT alongside other high-security platforms. While this level of security may deter some casual users, it underscores the growing necessity for stronger account protection in digital spaces.
